The Smurfs

The Smurfs are a community of joyful fellows living happily together in a fairy tale village full of mushroom-shaped houses, which cannot be entered by human. They are blue, three apples high and speak a funny language, the Smurf language. With Greedy, Handy, Brainy, Lazy Smurf, the Smurfette and lots of friends, the Smurfs are carefree, peaceful creatures that live in harmony with nature. Yet they are a happy, easy-going bunch but there is always some danger because of the wizard Gargamel who tries to capture them.

The Smurfs appeared 50 years ago in the stories of Johan and Peewit. The readers of this teenager comic embraced the blue little fellows immediately and their success quickly led to 'Smurf-only' stories and cartoons. In 1982, there were already 200 episodes. In 2008, the Smurfs are celebrating their 50th anniversary.
